THE BRIEF

To design the poster for Dawson’s Graphic Design end-of-year vernissage, with the freedom to design it with our own individual style with elements that embodied our journey throughout the years. This project was the ultimate test of everything we’d learned and allowed us to display the skills we gained during our time in the program.

THE PROCESS

As I worked on the poster design project, I explored several ideas, but I was drawn to the idea of representing the challenges we faced during our time in the graphic design program. The first year was entirely online due to Covid, and the second year was in-person, which made our journey unique. Initially, I considered using the term “New Normal” to capture this situation, but I decided to add a design twist by using “Neue,” the German word for new, which is frequently used in graphic design. I settled on it to represent our experience. Keeping the “Neue”, fresh perspective that designers have in mind, I created a design that embodied this idea.

THE OUTCOME

Experimenting with gradients in my design for the first time was an intriguing experience. I particularly enjoyed using sunrise/sunset colors to symbolize a new day and incorporating semi-circles as a subtle and abstract message in the final poster, which enhanced its overall impact.
